Rhoda Lucey has explored a number of different subjects for her artwork, but often gravitates toward animals. In October 2016, she participated in the Inktober drawing challenge to try out a new artistic medium — sumi ink. Many traditional sumi brush paintings draw their themes from nature, so Rhoda decided to do a painting of one of the creatures of Como Zoo each day.
Each painting was created with sumi ink and a bamboo brush, white gel pen, and black multiliner pens of different sizes. The quantity of pieces involved in Inktober poses a significant challenge, but exploring a new medium is hugely rewarding. Rhoda is looking forward to applying the better understanding of brushwork and value to future pieces.

Every October, artists all over the world take on the Inktober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month and sharing it online tagged #inktober.
