CONSERVATORY

·Artists Guidelines

Thank you for choosing our facility. We appreciate the efforts of artists in their quest to capture the beauty of (Como’s or the Conservatory’s) plants and flowers.

Please follow these simple guidelines when using the Conservatory:

  • Drawing/painting is permitted during regular visiting hours:
    • 10:00 am – 4:00 pm during the winter (Oct. 1- March 31)
    • 10:00 am – 6:00 pm during the summer (April 1- Sept 30)

  • Individual amateur artists are permitted during regular visiting hours (water color is allowed, no oils please)

  • Photographers are permitted during regular visiting hours – but only hand-held or lap top equipment is permitted. (Tripods, easels, stools, boxes and other artistic equipment blocks the aisles and interferes with the enjoyment of the gardens by our other visitors)

  • Art students and instructors who arrive together must keep the walkways available for other visitors. Please do not congregate in the MMC walkways or hold instruction in the building.

  • For artists who wish to use additional types of equipment, we invite you to join us at our special Artist and Camera Events. For a nominal fee, additional artistic equipment is permitted before/after our regular visiting hours. (Inquire at the Visitor Services Office in the Visitor Center for a list of dates for those events.)

  • Any water used for your drawing/painting must be obtained and disposed of in an appropriate manner. Do not dump your water in the planting areas or on the floors. Use the restrooms.

  • Please stay on the pathways, and remember the Conservatory’s plant material, furniture (benches & stools) exit signs, etc. should never be moved or tampered with. Always remember that other visitors are trying to enjoy their visit. Walkways should never be blocked in any way.
