Art and Illustration Program
Certification

Introductory Drawing and Watercolor courses will remain the same and continue to be offered every quarter (fall, winter, spring/summer) with regularity. Both botanical and zoological certificates will continue to have eight standard foundation courses.

Focus Course requirements for each certificate have been streamlined. Requirements expose students to a variety of mediums used in both art and illustration. Many of the courses traditionally offered under the arts focus requirements will be offered in the future as electives taken for credit or at the student's leisure as a supplement to their certificate.

Workshops are meant to be taken as any number of sessions or a set. Elective credit is offered when a student registers for and completes a set of 2 or more workshops. The number of electives required is three.

CERTIFICATE STRUCTURE

Listed in most desirable course progression, though variation is acceptable. It is advised to take the science courses: Plant Anatomy and Morphology for Artists and Illustrators; Plant Taxonomy; Animal Anatomy and Physiology for Artists and Illustrators; and Animal Diversity early in the program. Introductory Courses - Drawing Basics, Watercolor Basics are appropriate for beginner course for each certificate, but do not count as credits toward the certificate. Three electives are required for the completion of each certificate, elective offerings vary with each quarter.
