Materials List

BOTANICAL DRAWING I

Materials:

Paper

  • Sketch pad, 9" x 12"
  • Drawing pad, 18" x 24": A bit heavier weight than Sketch, more expensive; prefer acid-free (buffered)
  • Watercolor Paper, 3 - 5 sheets, 90 - 140 lb., a variety of textures (rough, cold press and hot press), 11" x 14" to 15" x 22". For exercises, inexpensive is fine.

Drawing Tools

  • Drawing Pencils: 4B, 2B, HB or F, 2H, 4H
  • Charcoal stick
  • Vine charcoal
  • Conte Crayon: 1 white and 1 black

Erasers

  • Magic Rub
  • Kneaded Eraser

Pens and Points

  • Pen Holder (Handle for dip pens), for Hawkquill points.
  • Hawkquill Pen Point.
  • Scratchboard "Knife" or "point": diamond or spade shaped point that fits into a dip pen holder, to be used for Scratchboard

Ink

  • Black waterproof drawing ink

Brushes

  • 1 Watercolor round, approx size 8 - 12; OR Chinese or Japanese (bamboo) brush.
