AN INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLORS - Material List
This is an introductory class to the joys of painting with watercolor. No previous experience is necessary and complete novices are welcome. We will discuss materials, supplies, techniques and each week touch on a new subject. Each lesson we will have a discussion and demonstration at the beginning of class, an extended period where the student gets to work on his/her own painting and then a group discussion at the end of the lesson to review what we have accomplished during the class. Watercolor can be many things to many people. We will explore its possibilities.

BOTANICAL DRAWING I - Material List
Form, proportions, perspective, composition, positive and negative spaces shading, contour and gesture is covered through the exploration of pencil, charcoal, brush and ink, pen and ink and scratchboard with attention to the application of these concepts to accurate drawing of plants and animals.

This course tackles the challenges of drawing plants by addressing the different parts, structures, shapes, textures, layers, forms and functions within the diversity of plant life, building towards a deeper and integrated understanding of drawing whole plants.

BOTANICAL WATERCOLOR I -Material List
This class concentrates on traditional botanical painting techniques with an emphasis on realistic portrayal of plant subjects.  Students concentrate on mastering techniques including basic wash, glazing and dry brush by working with live plants and floral parts.

INTRODUCTION TO COLORED PENCILS - Material List
This introductory course will emphasize utilizing principles of good design and color usage while gaining a working knowledge of colored pencil techniques, including (but not limited to) types of pencil strokes and their uses, burnishing, layering, blending, lifting color, frottage, and some use of solvents (markers). THE BASICS OF DRAWING ANIMALS -Material List
Explore the form and function of a variety of zoo animals while receiving hands-on drawing instruction! Beginning to advanced students will learn to construct different animals through the use of gesture, contour line, positive and negative space while also discovering anatomical similarities and differences. Observe up-close specifics of animals in a classroom setting, while furthering the opportunity to explore a variety of media. (6 sessions)

COLOR THEORY - Material List
Color in this course is defined not just as a visual element with which to build but as a process of seeing, thinking, feeling and designing.  Concentration is on perceptual seeing, on mixing, and on explorations and assignments designed to help the student define a personal palette for higher level work in any color media.

PLANTS IN PEN AND INK - Material List
Because ofits clarity and ease of reproduction, pen and ink has long been a favored medium for scientific illustration. For the field naturalist, pen and ink can be an important tool because of the simplicity of its materials and permanence of its image. Students will explore the use of pen and ink line, brush and stipple techniques in describing plant form, and will be introduced to the use of scratchboard.

INTRODUCTION TO ACRYLIC PAINTING- Material List
This two-session workshop introduces students to the fun of acrylic painting. An overview of acrylic paint characteristics and techniques, with an emphasis on hands-on exploration and the chance to develop a composition for a final painting will be covered. Techniques include individual brush techniques, dry brush, transparent (controlled) washes, under layers, color floating for value changes and texture techniques. (2 sessions)
