Como Park Zoo and Conservatory hosts creative,
hands-on classes designed especially for homeschool students. During each class, students will explore the natural world with art projects, plant and animal visitors, scavenger hunts and more. A variety of age appropriate activities are incorporated into each program. There's something for everyone!

These classes are age appropriate for children 5-15 (as noted).

AFRICAN SAVANNA (Ages 5 – 15)
Giraffes, zebras, and lions .... oh my!  Come meet the savanna ambassadors of Como Zoo as we explore the adaptations and features that make these animals unique.  We will also have the opportunity to meet with a hoofed stock keeper!

FABULOUS FROGS AND THEIR FRIENDS (Ages 5 – 8)
Celebrate “the year of the frog” with the fabulous frogs of Como Zoo!  Hold on tight as we explore the lives of amphibians both on land and in the water.  Be prepared to meet some of the slimiest creatures on Earth.

Compared to humans, many animals have amazing senses that allow them to stay alert and stay alive in the wild. Just what makes a bat’s ear see and a snake’s tongue smell?   SEE for yourself how the world appears to our wild neighbors.

CAREERS AT COMO (Ages 9 – 15)
Here’s your chance to learn if you have what it takes to be a gardener or zookeeper.  Meet a Como Zoo keeper to discover how operant conditioning training and enrichment are key tools in animal welfare.  Go behind the scenes of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory to learn tricks of the gardening trade.  Take home some hints that can make you stand out in these competitive careers.

PRIMATE ADVENTURES (Ages 5 – 8)

SECRETS OF THE JAPANESE GARDEN (Ages 5 – 15)
The people of Japan have long honored the principals of Japanese gardening to bring peace and tranquility.  Learn how rocks, crooked paths, water, and whispering pines play a role in creating the secrets of Japanese gardening.  Create your own garden to take home as a reminder of your visit to Como’s Ordway Memorial Japanese Garden.
