‘Our Shared Planet’ is a traveling environmental awareness exhibit featuring the wood-carved birds and animals of award winning wildlife artist Jim Ramsdell. The exhibit contains a number of highly detailed life-size wood sculptures, set against lighted interpretive backdrops, beautiful photographs and quotes along with nature sounds and music, all designed to raise the consciousness and awareness of its visitors. Sections of the exhibit feature endangered species and the fragile ecosystems which they inhabit, stressing the importance of their preservation.

'Our Shared Planet' is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. MORE

These treasured tales will educate guests about ocean life, rainforest adventures, frogs, and much more.

Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is serving up some scrumptious garden fun for the fourth year in a row in the Chipotle Edible Garden opening Friday, June 13.

Trained staff and volunteers will be onsite 10am – 6pm to answer guests questions. At 12:00pm daily and 3:30pm on weekdays the Conservatory gardening staff will give gardener talks about growing techniques, ways to harvest and prepare food from your garden, natural pest control, and creative edible landscape design.

‘Our Shared Planet’ is a traveling environmental awareness exhibit featuring the wood-carved birds and animals of award winning wildlife artist Jim Ramsdell. The exhibit contains a number of highly detailed life-size wood sculptures, set against lighted interpretive backdrops, beautiful photographs and quotes along with nature sounds and music, all designed to raise the consciousness and awareness of its visitors. Sections of the exhibit feature endangered species and the fragile ecosystems which they inhabit, stressing the importance of their preservation.

'Our Shared Planet' is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. MORE

We’re getting in shape with our very own kid-friendly, animal-themed exercises and activities! From Saturday, September 13 – Sunday, September 14, kids can test their skills at animal-themed exercise based activity stations throughout the zoo. Visitors will receive a “Back to School Fitness Report Card” when they enter.

Classes/stations include:

Animal World Geography—Who are the fittest animals in the world & where do they live? Who is the strongest? …Fastest? …Has the most endurance?

Animal Arithmetic—Sprint to determine if you faster than a cheetah, zebra, ostrich or sloth. Do the math to figure out just how fast those animals are!

Animal Phy. Ed.—Lumber like an elephant, hop like a frog! Elevate your heart rate as you engage in a lively round of Animal Hopscotch.

Animal Arts & Crafts—Make an animal activity cube to take home

Animal Health—Healthy bodies, healthy minds. Try out some animal yoga poses.

After visiting a station/class, participants will receive a shiny star sticker on their “Report Card” indicating they passed the class. Completed “Report Cards” can be turned in for prizes!

‘Our Shared Planet’ is a traveling environmental awareness exhibit featuring the wood-carved birds and animals of award winning wildlife artist Jim Ramsdell. The exhibit contains a number of highly detailed life-size wood sculptures, set against lighted interpretive backdrops, beautiful photographs and quotes along with nature sounds and music, all designed to raise the consciousness and awareness of its visitors. Sections of the exhibit feature endangered species and the fragile ecosystems which they inhabit, stressing the importance of their preservation.

'Our Shared Planet' is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008. MORE

A Conversation with Orangutan Expert Dr. Graham Banes

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Graham Banes, a researcher who conducts molecular and ecological studies of orangutans in Borneo. Dr. Banes also wrote The Kingfisher Encyclopedia of Life, a book for young scientists that looks at 30,000 years of biological evolution. Dr. Banes will be available to sign books purchased at the event.

Your meal tickets during Como Day at Chipotle Mexican Grill last year helped to ring up more than $13,000 in donations for Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, the most successful fundraiser Chipotle has ever seen in the state. Let’s order up an even bigger “Tacos for Tigers” turn-out this year!

On September 23, Chipotle will give Como 50 percent of all sales made in Minnesota, as well as Hudson and Eau Claire, Wisconsin up to $35,000. All you have to do is tell Chipotle you’d like your order to support Como, the state’s most visited cultural institution. 'Our Shared Planet' Exhibit

‘Our Shared Planet’ is a traveling environmental awareness exhibit featuring the wood-carved birds and animals of award winning wildlife artist Jim Ramsdell. The exhibit contains a number of highly detailed life-size wood sculptures, set against lighted interpretive backdrops, beautiful photographs and quotes along with nature sounds and music, all designed to raise the consciousness and awareness of its visitors. Sections of the exhibit feature endangered species and the fragile ecosystems which they inhabit, stressing the importance of their preservation.
