Como Park Japanese Obon Festival

Bonsai, martial arts, Ikebana, singing, dancing, drumming, delicious food and other aspects of Japanese culture will take center stage at the 20th annual Como Park Japanese Obon Festival, a family-friendly event, reminiscent of Japan’s annual Obon holiday.

Gates and exhibits open at 3pm

The day will culminate at dusk with the main event—the lantern lighting. Stone lanterns as well as hundreds of floating paper lanterns throughout the Japanese Garden pond and the Frog Pond will create a vision of peacefulness and harmony.

Admission is $5 per person. Admission for children ages 3-12 and Seniors 65 and over is $3, and those 2 and under are free.

You can easily avoid the parking challenges by following the signs to the free Como Shuttle. MORE

Senior Strolls

Senior Strolls take place on every Tuesday through August from 9am-10am. This is a special time set aside for just for our 55-and-up aged friends. Each month will feature an opportunity to visit a part of the Zoo or Conservatory for a leisurely walk before the crowds as well as special activities and guests. This event is a great opportunity for Seniors to enjoy a free event that encourages being active and social with some adult learning to spice it up.

Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea

The Washed Ashore exhibit features giant sea life sculptures made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches to graphically illustrate the plastic pollution found in our oceans and waterways. The artwork will be combined with scientifically based educational signage to teach visitors about ocean stewardship, responsible consumer habits and how every action counts to help save our seas. The Summer Flower Show displays the greatest array of warm season blooming plants over the longest schedule of the five Sunken Garden Flower Shows. Pink will be the main color with hints of white in the 2018 Summer Flower Show. Oriental lilies, cordyline, petunias, geraniums, and dichondra are just some of the flowers featured in this year’s show!
