Baby Giraffe Makes Public Debut, Help Us Name Her October 21 & 22

Naming Contest At Como October 21 & 22

Baby Giraffe

Como Zoo’s eight-day-old baby giraffe is making her public debut, Wednesday October 10th. Coming into the world at 5’ 8” and 120 pounds, the baby is standing tall with mother Daisy shadowing over her in the Hoofstock Building at Como Zoo.

Como is turning to its large social media following to help name the baby giraffe. Between now and Thursday, October 18, people can visit Como’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages to offer their suggestions. Three names will be selected by the zoo’s giraffe keepers and staff. Ballot boxes will be set up for visitors to vote on the three names during Como’s Creepy Crawly Creature Awareness Weekend, October 20 & 21. The name receiving the most votes over the weekend will be the new name of the baby.

The new baby female, born Tuesday morning, October 2, is the 8th calf born to Daisy and the 22nd giraffe birth at Como Zoo in the last 24 years. Como’s current herd consists of Daisy, Clover, Skeeter (father) and the yet-to-be named calf. This is Skeeter’s 6th offspring, 5 of which have been female.
