Groovin’ In The Garden ~ Free Outdoor Concert Series

Past winner of City Pages “Best Place to See a Concert with Kids”, Como Park Zoo & Conservatory’s free concert series “Groovin’ In The Garden” returns for the 8th year featuring some of the Twin Cities’ finest musicians & activities for the whole family, rain or shine!*

While the grownups get their groove on with some of the Twin Cities best bands, the kids will be entertained by a climbing wall, bouncy house, and lawn games. Pack a picnic and dancing shoes, spread out a blanket & join us for these FREE outdoor concerts & activities in front of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory every Wednesday, June 5 – July 24 from 6pm–8pm. Food, ice cream treats, beer and wine will be available to purchase.

*If it rains, we’ll move inside the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory and have Music Under Glass!

Groovin’ In The Garden with Innocent Reggae Band

With a vocal delivery reminiscent of Bob Marley, Innocent’s live performance is captivating. He engages the audience immediately and holds them rapt throughout the show. Innocent presents roots reggae on the highest level.




Groovin’ In The Garden with Kiss The Tiger

Kiss the Tiger is a female-fronted, five-piece rock ‘n’ roll outfit from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Drawing on influences from Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones, Patti Smith, and Iggy Pop, Kiss the Tiger “does rock revivalism exceptionally well” (Michael Madden, City Pages).

Groovin’ In The Garden with The Sweet Colleens

The Sweet Colleens are accomplished multi–instrumentalists who together fuse their diverse musical backgrounds into a high energy, infectious, and crowd–pleasing mix of “Celtic folk–rock and alt. country/Americana, with Cajun and Caribbean seasonings.” With infectious original songs, warm vocal harmonies, and fiery instrumental arrangements, The Sweet Colleens are winning a loyal local following and fans across the Midwest and beyond.



Groovin’ In The Garden with The Shackletons

The Shackletons are a rock band out of the Twin Cities writing and playing songs rooted in the rich influence of the “Minnesota Sound.” The band consists of Colin Campbell (vocals/guitar), his older brother, Cameron (Bass), and younger brother Evan (Drums/miscellaneous screaming). Living a double life as both a knee-buckling indie rock band as well as a stomp-your-foot-through-the-floor blues band, The Shackletons have been generating buzz throughout the Twin Cities and Midwest Region. “Imagine Conor Oberst with a John Belushi attitude, fronting the Hold Steady.”  – Jay Gabler (89.3 The Current)



Groovin’ In The Garden with Main Street Bayou

Main Street Bayou is a New Orleans-inspired band fronted by Minneapolis piano/organ player John Reinhart and a premiere combo of the funkiest talented local musicians from the Twin Cities, pumping out tunes as a 4-piece combo with drums, bass, and electric guitar. Formed in 2018, this band and the music they play is dedicated to the spirit of New Orleans music and the thrill of the rhythm that pours out of that part of the world. We don’t know why it is so, but it keeps you wanting more.



Groovin’ In The Gardens with The Katy Vernon Band

Katy was born and raised in London, UK but in the past dozen or so years has established herself as one of the busiest musicians in Minnesota. Combining melodic pop/folk songwriting with her twangy Americana band. She has appeared at Festivals in the Midwest and UK.Katy’s new album. ‘Suit of Hearts’ is receiving national attention, including Americana Highway’s Gary Schwind who recently wrote “Suit of Hearts is a complex, multidimensional album that defies easy description. The sounds range from pop to country, and Vernon’s sweet voice ties it all together.”



Groovin’ In The Gardens with Malamanya

Malamanya is a United States based band comprised of musicians who share a mutual respect and enthusiasm for traditional rhythms and melodies from the Caribbean and Latin America. Their onstage energy and compositions reflect the communal, complex, and celebratory spirit prevalent in these musical genres.


 This program was funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s art and cultural heritage.
