ZooBoo! October 21, 22, 28 and 29, 2017

Como Friends’ ZooBoo at Como Zoo

For four nights in October, Como Zoo is transformed into a furry and fairy-tailed wonderland—a perfect fright-free destination for your tiniest trick-or-treaters. This magical event offers families a safe trick-or-treating alternative plus many Halloween surprises such as animal visitors, live entertainment and craft projects. Perfect for kids 3-8 years old. Community support and more than 200 costumed characters have helped to make Como Friends’ ZooBoo at Como Zoo one of the longest-running fundraisers for any nonprofit in the state.

Who needs a ticket?

All children who want to trick-or-treat must have a ticket. Children who are under two-years-of-age and not trick-or-treating are free. All adults must have a ticket.

Does my child need to bring a trick-or-treat bag?

Yes, children are encouraged to bring their own reusable treat bag.

What age group is ZooBoo for?

ZooBoo is best suited for children up to age 8.

What kind of treats will the kids get?

Children will get about 10 treats…a variety of items from candy to educational material to stickers.

Should my child wear a costume?

We do encourage kids to wear costumes – but ZooBoo is an outdoor event, so make sure to dress appropriately for the weather.

When is the best time to attend ZooBoo?

Typically the first weekend of ZooBoo (Oct. 21-22) is less busy than the second weekend (Oct. 28-29). Sundays are also lighter than Saturdays. Most guests come between 4:30-6:00 p.m., so the crowds are lighter after 6:00 pm each evening.

Where do I park?

ZooBoo guests are encouraged to use the FREE park and ride shuttle service during ZooBoo. The lot is a State Fair parking lot located on the south side of Como Avenue across from the State Fair’s grounds.  The shuttle runs from approximately 4:00 – 8:15pm each evening.

Will the animals be out during ZooBoo?

Most animals will not be out. The animals normally go to bed at 4 p.m. in October and ZooBoo begins after bedtime. However, some animals that sleep outside, such as the bison and Dall’s sheep may be visible during ZooBoo. Also the Polar Bears will have access to their outside exhibit during ZooBoo but we can’t guarantee that they’ll be visible.

Where does the money go?

ZooBoo is a fund raiser for Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. ZooBoo is produced by Como Friends, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire community generosity to advance Como Park Zoo and Conservatory as a destination where people from all walks of life can gather, learn, and enjoy the natural world.
