Flamingos have long, broad wings for excellent flight, and their long necks, bills and legs are well adapted to a wading mode of life. While males are usually larger than females, the sex of a flamingo is best determined using a blood test.

Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea

The Washed Ashore exhibit features giant sea life sculptures made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches to graphically illustrate the plastic pollution found in our oceans and waterways. The artwork will be combined with scientifically based educational signage to teach visitors about ocean stewardship, responsible consumer habits and how every action counts to help save our seas. Summer Flower Show

10:00 am

The Summer Flower Show displays the greatest array of warm season blooming plants over the longest schedule of the five Sunken Garden Flower Shows. Pink will be the main color with hints of white in the 2018 Summer Flower Show. Oriental lilies, cordyline, petunias, geraniums, and dichondra are just some of the flowers featured in this year’s show!percentage of yellow and chartreuse. The Summer Flower will feature a variety of petunias, geraniums and lilies. MORE

Giraffe Feeding

Get closer than ever to the gentle giants of Como Zoo! The Feeding Station features a gated feeding area where visitors can purchase a leaf of romaine lettuce browse for $5 to feed the giraffe. There is also a separate, non-gated deck for viewing and photography. MORE

Zoo Keeper Talk

11:00 am

Meet the Zoo Keepers! Every day a different topic will be featured and guests will learn about the day-to-day operations of running Como Zoo. Learn about the animals and how they are cared for, plus guests can ask questions. MORE

Watch as primate keepers interact with our great apes, monkeys, tamarins, and lemurs. Education specialists will interpret the training session and answer any questions you may have. MORE
