Today's Species: Polar Bear

The polar bear’s coat is a typical example of adaptation to cold weather climate. It is almost impermeable to freezing temperatures and permits long periods of immersion in the icy Arctic waters.

Endangered Species by Amy R. Handford

10:00 am

Amy R. Handford is a self-taught artist who specializes in endangered species. She works in different mediums ranging from oil, watercolor, concrete, stained glass, as well as hand painted clothing. She is quite proficient at all subject matter whether it is an animal, a person, a flower or something in between. Amy will be donating a portion from sales of the pieces on display to Como Park Zoo & Conservatory. MORE

Summer Flower Show

The Summer Flower Show displays the greatest array of warm season blooming plants over the longest schedule of the five Sunken Garden Flower Shows. The summer show will feature blue and orange flowers with a smaller percentage of yellow and chartreuse. The Summer Flower will feature a variety of petunias, geraniums and lilies. MORE

Meet the Zoo Keepers! Every day a different topic will be featured and guests will learn about the day-to-day operations of running Como Zoo. Learn about the animals and how they are cared for, plus guests can ask questions. MORE

Join us for story time everyday at 12:00! Our stories feature plants and animals, and occasionally involve costumed characters. MORE

Gardener Talk

Meet the Gardeners! Every day a different topic will be featured and guests will learn about the day-to-day operations of running the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. Learn about plants and how they are cared for, plus guests can ask questions. MORE

Gorilla Program

2:00 pm

Watch as primate keepers interact with our great apes, monkeys, tamarins, and lemurs. Education specialists will interpret the training session and answer any questions you may have. MORE
