·Como Zoo and Conservatory Society

The Como Zoo and Conservatory Society is a nonprofit organization that promotes, supports, preserves and enhances Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. The Society accomplishes this primarily through capital and annual fundraising, marketing and public relations. Fundraising activities include the operation of Garden Safari gift shop, management of special events and administration of membership and a variety of other annual giving programs.

During 2006, funds raised by the Como Zoo and Conservatory Society were invested in:

  • An animal training program that is improving the health and well-being of Como Zoo’s animals.
  • Five seasonal flower shows in the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory’s Sunken Garden.
  • A zoo keeping position to make it possible for more intensive care of Como Zoo’s animals and for an expanded animal training program for the primates, large cats, polar bears, seals, sea lions, giraffes and zebras.
  • The purchase of beneficial insects to control unwanted insects in the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory’s gardens and the purchase of valued orchid and Bonsai collections.
  • Conservation programs focused on preserving animal and plants around the world such as a butterfly conservation initiative.
  • Education programs that teach over 425,000 children and adults each year about animals, plants, biodiversity and cultures.
