Como Park Zoo and Conservatory plays a vital role in teaching people about our world, which makes volunteering at Como a very rewarding experience. As a volunteer, you’ll experience first-hand the fascinating connections between people, plants and animals. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet interesting people and learn new things about plants, animals, gardens and their impact on cultures and the environment.

Volunteers:

Como volunteers are young, old and in-between, with a wide variety of backgrounds and schedules. We’ll help you find a place to belong at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Depending on current openings here are some of the ways you can be involved.  Current openings are noted on the application form

  • Visitor Greeter- Welcome and assist visitors in finding attractions and special activities. Share information about the day’s schedule
  • Interpreter (Public Education) Welcome visitors and help our guests enjoy a fulfilling zoo and conservatory experience by sharing information about animals, plants and the relationships among all living things.
  • Day Camp Assistant – Have fun with children as they learn about plants and animals.  Assist teachers during weekday morning or afternoon sessions; Summer and Winter opportunities.
  • Education Aide – Work side by side with Como Education staff assisting with classes. Work with children and adults.
  • Gardener Aide – Assist staff in the preparation and maintenance of horticultural displays.  Indoor and outdoor seasonal positions.
  • Projects and Events – If you are looking for a more periodic schedule or a one time project for a small group, there are several ways to be involved at Como.  Projects for small groups or individuals include seasonal grounds maintenance and event support.  Our fall event; Zoo Boo depends significantly on volunteer support.  Staging this event requires many volunteers for; set and prop design, construction, placement and tear down, as well as costumed and non-costumed opportunities during Como’s annual October event for kids of all ages.
